Frequently Asked Questions
1.
Where is the church going to be?
First of all, we will be a downtown church. This means that we want to be as close to the city core as possible. Secondly, we will be a diverse church. Denver is home to a variety of ethnic groups and we desire to put our ministry as close to the convergence of the large ethnic populations as possible. We will also place a high value on generational diversity having a ministry that touches the old and the young. We also desire to have socio-economic diversity believing that the rich and the poor need each other.

2.
Do you have a building yet?
As of February, we have begun meeting in the old sanctuary of Central Baptist Church located at 2400 California Street.  The church is one block of the light rail stop at 26th and Welton and sits just off of Park Avenue West.  We meet on Sunday nights at 6:00 p.m.

3.
Is this going to be a homeless church?
No.  We are going to be a church for all people.  We desire to reach the rich and the poor, the young and the old, the single, the married, and families with children.  However, regardless of socio-economic status, all members of Providence will have a burden for helping the poor.

4.
Is the Janz family going to move downtown?
Yes.  Our house is on the market.

5.
What is your timeline?
January, 2008 – Church Core Meetings begin on Sunday evenings
June, 2008 – Preview Services begin
July, 2008 – Small Groups launch
September, 2008 – Sunday Services launch

6.
Why are you waiting to start Sunday morning services?
Actually, if you read the leading voices on church planting today, we are following their advice.  They would say that some of the biggest mistakes made in church planting today are starting too early and starting without the proper amount of support.

7.
What will you be doing between now and the actual launch of the church?
We will be enlisting ministry partners who will come alongside us in prayer, financial support, and being part of our launch team.  Also, we will be going through extensive training as a core team as we journey together and form what this church will look like.

8.
What type of Core Launch Team members are you looking for?
  • Teaching Team – This team will provide the main teaching of the church.
  • Growth Team – This team will direct the small group ministry of the church.  This ministry strives to help people pursue the path of becoming lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • Children’s Ministry Team – This team will lead the ministry to children from nursery through the 5th grade.
  • Prayer Team – This team will pray for the ministry and create opportunities for more people to be involved in the ministry of prayer.
  • Community Team – This team will champion the value of outreach into our community.  This will involve sharing the Gospel with others as well as being involved in helping with the social needs of the city.
  • Technology Team – This team will help the mission of the ministry by providing the technical support needs such as web development, sound and lights, recording ministry (audio and film), etc.
  • Welcome Team – This team will focus on making all of our guests feel welcome.  They will also work on an effective means of following up people who desire to be part of this ministry.
  • Music Team – This team will focus on leading worship in our weekend services.
  • Finance Team – This team will assist in formulating budgets, tracking expenses, and stewardship education.

9.
If I live in the suburbs, can I come to your church?
Part of our philosophy is that we want to live among the people God has called us to reach.  We encourage all people to relocate to the city if they truly want to give their lives to the city.  That being said, we believe there are three types of people who could help this new work
  • Live in the Suburbs, Care for the City – These people would support the ministry in prayer, financial support, and by volunteering.
  • Live in the Suburbs, Do Church in the City – These people would support the ministry by their presence and serve wherever needed.  Their geographical distance would create some limitations to having relationships with people in the city.
  • Live in the City, Do Church in the City – These people would live among the people God has called us to reach.  They would be missionaries to the neighborhood God has placed them in and endeavor to live out the Gospel.

10.
What kind of church will it be?
We have incorporated as Providence Bible Church.  Ten core values of our church are God-Exalting, Scripture-Saturated, Gospel-Proclaiming, Life-Building, Culturally Engaged, Missions Focused, Prayer-Empowered, Leader-Guided, Compassionately Serving, and People-Embracing.  These ideas will be fleshed out in more detail as the core meetings begin.
